TRAME the new mosaic proposal by Friul Mosaic

TRAME the new mosaic proposal by Friul Mosaic

From the now consolidated collaboration between FRIUL MOSAIC and gumdesign comes a new and fresh composition: TRAME.

FRIUL MOSAIC continues its artisanal journey inspired by the world of weaving by presenting a project by Laura Fiaschi and Gabriele Pardi, included in the CONTEMPORANEO catalogue.

“The Tuscan design studio, first with the PAESAGGIO collection and the LA CASA DI PIETRA project, and today with TRAME, manages to capture the essence of our passion, of the art of mosaic and of the value of our workmanship” says Nicola Avoledo of Friul Mosaic

Intertwined like the threads that make up a carpet, the mosaic tiles dance gently forming a creative and elegant novelty in mosaic art. Gumdesign has brought this personal rhythmic interpretation of the texture, alternating bundles of small 5mm mosaic tiles with larger marble parts.

TRAME expresses the philosophy of FRIUL MOSAIC according to which the craftsman must not entrench himself in tradition but must always be curious, constantly innovate in search of architectural and furnishing solutions created with precision and rigor but also creativity and curiosity.

“It is important to convey the versatility of our work, we like to range from artistic mosaic with reproduction even on a large scale of personalized works or drawings, to geometries, joints, minimal and modern motifs. Combinations of styles and techniques” concludes Nicola Avoledo.

Inside the FRIUL MOSAIC laboratory, the mosaic artisans cut the tiles by hand still using the hammer, and thus create shapes and mosaics destined to last over time.

Ephemeral Waves, a new collaboration for Friul Mosaic and Marco Gallotta

Ephemeral Waves, a new collaboration for Friul Mosaic and Marco Gallotta

Friul Mosaic continues its collaboration with Marco Gallotta, an artist of Italian origin who has been working in New York for almost 25 years, a city from which he draws strong inspiration for his works that originate from paper-cutting, drawing, painting and printing techniques, for which he is recognized throughout the world.

The artist’s collaboration with the artisan company, a true icon of contemporary mosaic art, began in 2022 and is renewed this year with the creation of Ephemeral Waves, a mosaic artwork that stands out for its play of contrasts to evoke the fluid and transitory nature of water. The work was presented at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024, an event of excellence for the world of luxury, which showcases the best of the nautical industry and its excellence.

The project uses cutouts and negative spaces strategically to create a sense of movement and lightness, mirroring the way water shapes and takes shape from the environment in which it flows. The work recreates both a visual and emotional representation of the aquatic element from which life originates and manages to capture its essence through the skillful use of space, light, color and movement.

Created in collaboration with the artisans of Friul Mosaic, this work of art uses precious handmade Venetian enamels, positioned on a metal base, to give life to a mosaic that with its visual strength recalls an emotional experience. Ephemeral Waves merges Gallotta’s artistic sensibility with the Friulian artisan tradition, creating a harmonious dialogue between innovation and craftsmanship.

Tessere by Friul Mosaic

Attesa, Traccia and Principio. These are the names of the new versions of Tessere, the Friul Mosaic collection, the result of the design and experience of Luisa Bocchietto.

The three new mosaic compositions complete the collection that already included Prodigio, Viaggio and Fermento. Mosaic art joins the ancient textile art in a collection of surfaces that are handcrafted from every point of view. TESSERE is the name inspired both by the activity of tessere precisely, and by the final product, made up of the tiles of a new mosaic.

The result of an in-depth study of fabrics and textures in their construction and formal composition, TESSERE is inspired by the art of weaving and refers to the history of Biella entrepreneurship, an area in which an important production of excellence has developed and the city of origin of the designer. It draws inspiration from the values of craftsmanship and pure creativity.

TESSERE is particularly representative for FRIUL MOSAIC also because it refers to the fundamental element of every mosaic, namely the tesserae, 10 mm thick and hand-cut with a hammer by expert craftsmen.

Friul Mosaic realizza a Bucarest l'opera

The Bulgari Hotel Roma is the second hotel in Italy and the ninth jewel in the global collection of Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, which currently includes properties in Milan, London, Paris, Dubai, Beijing, Shanghai, Bali and Tokyo, with openings planned in the Maldives and Miami (2025) and Los Angeles (2026).

The Hotel is located a stone’s throw from Via del Corso, Piazza di Spagna and the historic Bulgari store on Via Condotti. The Maison has a deep connection with the city, which saw its birth almost 140 years ago: the Bulgari Hotel Roma celebrates the finest qualities of the Eternal City, going beyond clichés, and is a showcase of the best Italian design and craftsmanship, which are celebrated through attention to every detail.

The imposing building that houses the hotel (with a total surface area of 14,000 square meters) dates back to 1940 and has recently been transformed into a majestic modern monument thanks to the bold vision of the ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel studio. The studio has masterfully balanced the aesthetic rigor of the stones used in Imperial Rome and the architectural cleanliness of the building through the use of particularly rich textures.

The 114 suites that make up the Hotel recall the Roman and Mediterranean roots of the Maison and are characterized by the attention to every detail to offer a unique experience of luxury and well-being. Each Suite enjoys a splendid view of Piazza Augusto Imperatore or Via della Frezza, with glimpses of classic Roman charm.

The large bathrooms of the rooms feature colored marble according to four color palettes, with mosaic rosettes that evoke the splendor of Bulgari jewels. The mosaic detail represents one of the most refined decorative elements of the architectural project: Friul Mosaic, an artisan workshop in San Martino al Tagliamento (Pordenone), created the 60 mosaic rosettes on the bathroom walls of some rooms, which represent the reproductions of three examples of high jewellery from the historical archive of the Roman maison. Each rosette also features the original logo of the exclusive boutique at Via Condotti 10. Even in the smallest detail, the Bulgari Hotel Roma intends to create a strong connection between its past and the expression of the contemporary Maison.

In the Bulgari Suite, the bathroom coverings play on the rhombus motif, interpreted with travertine and black marquina tiles combined with the calacatta and onyx of the walls. The sumptuous materials and rich textures are expressions of authentic luxury, in a combination of craftsmanship and charismatic style.

Friul Mosaic created the rosette model using the reverse method on paper technique, invented by a craftsman from Friuli. The Friuli region boasts one of the most important Italian mosaic traditions: Spilimbergo in particular has always been considered the home of great mosaic and terrazzo artists who have exported their great skill and worked all over the world. In these areas, a mosaic school was opened in 1922 that still trains young people from all over the world in this ancient art. All the craftsmen at Friul Mosaic come from the historic Friuli Mosaic School in Spilimbergo, who create the mosaic works entirely by hand with rigor and sartorial precision applied to every phase of the process.

To create the rosettes for the Bulgari Hotel Roma, the mosaic craftsmen collaborated with the marble workers, using the marble slabs from the bathrooms to produce part of the tiles so that inside the rosettes the details of the design were the same color as the marble used for the rest of the room. Each mosaic tile was created by breaking the various stones, one by one, on the classic wedge as per tradition: this process creates irregular shapes that the artisans combine together to give form to the design, with a unique mastery that differentiates artisan mosaics from those produced industrially.
