Project

Originally founded in 1822 as the Locanda Pagano and later transformed into the Hotel La Palma, this historic retreat has long been a haven for generations of artists and intellectuals drawn to the enchanting aura of the Isle of Sirens.
A true icon of Mediterranean summers, the hotel was reborn in 2023, regaining its status as a symbol of exclusive hospitality through a sophisticated redesign by Francis Sultana.
For the custom-made interiors, Poliform Contract meticulously curated every detail, entrusting Friul Mosaic with the creation of refined mosaics that bring the rooftop to life, transforming it into a captivating fusion of textures and craftsmanship.

The inspiration

“I wanted the mosaics to convey a sense of craftsmanship, not industrialization: a tribute to high fashion.”
Francis Sultana, the visionary behind the hotel's extraordinary transformation, describes the inspiration behind the rooftop mosaics:
“"I tried to capture the timeless elegance of the caftans worn by the women of Capri, evoking the vintage aesthetic of Missoni, the refined charm of Valentino, and the exotic sophistication of Renzo Mongiardino. And, of course, the ever-present palm trees, an iconic motif that unifies the entire design."”

Materials

The rooftop's custom design, featuring counters and islands, is embellished with a sophisticated mosaic of marble and Venetian smalti tiles of varying sizes. Each piece was meticulously crafted in the workshop before being carefully transported and installed on site.
Thanks to the extraordinary versatility of mosaic art, the technique adapts perfectly to curved, shaped, or irregular surfaces, offering a refined solution that enhances the elegance of the space.
