Project

Located in Milan’s Navigli district, Art Hotel Navigli is a hospitality space where contemporary design, art, and comfort define the guest experience. As part of the hotel renovation led by architect Biagio Forino, Friul Mosaic developed and installed a bespoke mosaic work for the main lobby.
The installation includes a 22.70 sqm mosaic carpet and a 4.9 sqm central medallion, both developed by Friul Mosaic from design development through on-site installation.
Conceived as a defining architectural element within the lobby, the mosaic integrates with the spatial design and the hotel’s art collection, contributing to a strong and coherent visual identity.

The inspiration

The project was developed to introduce a distinctive mosaic surface in dialogue with the hotel’s artistic context and the creative character of the Navigli district. The composition establishes a connection between art, architecture, and hospitality, translating traditional mosaic craftsmanship into a contemporary application.
Through dynamic geometry, material contrast, and calibrated composition, the surface reinforces the identity of the space and creates a precise visual focus for guests and visitors.

Materials

The installation combines natural stone, marble, and Venetian enamel, selected for durability, material depth, and chromatic definition. The mosaic was produced using the traditional reverse-paper technique, with tesserae in varying dimensions, from fine details to larger elements. This variation in scale creates rhythm, depth, and movement across the surface, enhancing light interaction and giving the work a contemporary presence within the hotel’s architectural context.
